The Jigawa State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, has approved a total of ₦7.2 billion worth of projects aimed at enhancing the state’s economy, security, and infrastructure.
According to a statement shared by the state’s commissioner of information,yiuth, sport and culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, the projects, which were approved at the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, October 13, 2025, include the construction of perimeter wall fencing in 15 public schools, modern markets in Shuwarin, Maigatari, and Hadejia, procurement of mini rice milling machines, date palm plantation project, motorcycles for agricultural extension workers, and solar-powered streetlights.
Musa said the State Government has approved ₦1.127 billion for the construction of perimeter wall fencing in 15 public schools across the state. This project aims to enhance security and safety in schools, preventing unauthorized access and ensuring the protection of students, staff, and educational assets.
He added that the government has also approved ₦2.372 billion for the construction of modern markets in Shuwarin, Maigatari, and Hadejia. This project is expected to boost commercial activities, promote inclusive economic growth, and strengthen the economic base of Jigawa State.
To promote agricultural development, the commissioner stated that the government has also approved ₦1.334 billion for the procurement of 200 customized mini rice milling machines. This project aims to empower smallholder farmers and agro-entrepreneurs, adding value to their produce and reducing post-harvest losses.
Additionally, he said ₦1.999 billion has been approved for the procurement of 1,185 motorcycles for agricultural extension workers. This project aims to enhance mobility and improve agricultural service delivery, boosting productivity and strengthening value chains.
Sagir said the government has also approved ₦405.56 million for the supply of 5,700 high-quality tissue-cultured date palm seedlings. This project aims to promote commercial date palm cultivation, enhance environmental sustainability, and create jobs for rural communities.
To improve public lighting and security, the government has approved ₦338.43 million for the procurement and installation of 350 integrated standalone solar-powered streetlights in selected semi-urban towns. This project aims to enhance safety, support local businesses, and contribute to the overall development of the communities.
