In a bid to mitigate the impact of flooding in the state, the Jigawa State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) in collaboration with the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and UNICEF, recently organized a one-day multi-sectoral coordination meeting on flood disaster response management.
The meeting, which was held on Thursday, 30th October, 2025 at the Acresal Conference Hall, JARDA, Dutse, brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and international organizations.
The meeting discussed key issues related to flood preparedness and response strategies, the role of stakeholders in flood mitigation, and the importance of community engagement and public awareness.
The participants also had the opportunity to share their experiences and best practices in flood disaster response management, and to identify areas of collaboration and support.
The Nimet representative Abdullahi Mustapha said the high risk areas between July, August and September, 2025 includes; During in Gabarin Community, Hadejia, Miga, Kaugama, Dutse, Kiyawa Dabi Zangon Gulya. While the high flood risk between October and November, 2025 were Jahun, and Buji local government. While the moderate risk are Auyo, Birniwa, Guri, Hadejia and Kafin-Hausa.
Managing Dirctor of Jigawa state Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) Sanitarian Adamu Sabo reiterated the state’s government commitment to addressing the challenges posed by flooding in the state. Adamu emphasized the importance of proactive measures to mitigate the impact of flooding, and has pledged to work with stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of flood disaster response strategies.
The collaboration with UNICEF underscores the importance of partnerships in addressing complex issues like flooding. The organization has pledged to support the state government in its efforts to mitigate the impact of flooding, and to provide technical assistance and resources to enhance the state’s flood disaster response capacity.
The meeting was a crucial step towards addressing the challenges posed by flooding in Jigawa State. The state government’s proactive approach to flood disaster response management is commendable, and it is expected that the meeting will lead to the development of effective strategies to mitigate the impact of flooding in the state.
