The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Jigawa State chapter, in partnership with the Jigawa State Rehabilitation Board, on Monday organized a quiz competition as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The event which is sponsored by Partnership for learning for all in Nigeria (PLANE), held at the NUT Secretariat, Dutse, on Monday 8th December, 2025 attracted students, disability advocates, officials from relevant ministries, and representatives of development partners.

This year’s commemoration is themed “Fostering Disability Inclusive Society for Advancing Social Progress,” reflecting global calls for stronger policies that promote equal opportunities and accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Speaking during the competition, Chairman of JONAPWD Hon. Adamu Shuaibu Jigawar Tsada said the competition aims to raise awareness on disability rights, encourage participation of primary students in advocacy, and promote an inclusive environment within schools and communities.

The programme received support from key partners, including Partnership for learning for all in Nigeria (PLANE) Sightsavers and Save the Children, who reiterated their commitment to strengthening disability inclusion across Jigawa State.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on December 3 to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities worldwide.

The schools participated in the quiz competition includes; Takur Site Primary School, Nuhu Sunusi Primary School, Limawa School for the visually impired, and Galadanci Primary School whom participated in English, Mathematics and Basic Science.

School for the visually impired, Limawa Dutse, pupil emerged the winners, followed by Takur site Primary School wins the 2nd position, Galadanci Primary School emerged the 3rd position while Nuhu Sunusi Primary School become the 4th position. 

The students shows their appreciation and promised to double their efforts in ensuring that next time they will perform better. They also thanks JONAPWD for organizing the quiz competition to commemorate their day.
