The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jigawa State Command, has commenced its end-of-the-year special patrol tagged “Operation Zero Tolerance”, aimed at ensuring safe and hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations across the state.
The special operation, which began on December 15, 2025, will run until January 15, 2026, in response to the expected increase in human and vehicular movement associated with the festive period.
Speaking on the initiative, the Jigawa State Sector Commander of the Corps, Umar Masa’udu Matazu, said the command had deployed robust operational strategies to guarantee free flow of traffic and reduce road traffic crashes on highways and major roads across the state.
According to him, the operation is designed to promote safer road use through continuous public enlightenment, strict enforcement of traffic regulations, and prompt rescue services in the event of emergencies.
He disclosed that a total of 413 FRSC personnel and 121 Special Marshals have been deployed across the state for the operation, supported by 10 patrol vehicles and four ambulances dedicated to rescue services and rapid response to distress calls.
Matazu said the command would focus on enforcing critical traffic offences including speeding, dangerous driving and overtaking, overloading, mixed loading, route violations, use of mobile phones while driving, and obstruction of highways.
He added that the corps would also intensify enforcement against underage driving and riding, reckless driving under the guise of festive celebrations, and the operation of mechanically deficient or rickety vehicles.
Other offences targeted include lane indiscipline, non-use of seatbelts and child restraints, passenger manifest violations, loading of trailers with passengers, and the illegal use of spy number plates.
The sector commander further noted that the command would sustain aggressive public enlightenment campaigns alongside increased mobile court sittings to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
He appealed to motorists and other road users in Jigawa State to obey traffic rules and regulations at all times, stressing that the safety of lives and property remains the corps’ top priority.
Matazu reassured residents of the commitment of the Corps Marshal to ensuring a peaceful and accident-free festive season and wished all citizens of the state a safe and joyous celebration.
