The First Lady of Jigawa State, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, has emphasized the significance of hand hygiene in preventing diseases and promoting public health.
She made this call during the commemoration of the 2025 Global Handwashing Day, held at Dundubus Primary School, Dutse on Wednesday 15th October, 2025.
The event, themed “Be a Handwashing Hero!”, was organized by the Jigawa State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) in collaboration with UNICEF.
The First Lady commended RUWASA for their efforts in promoting hygiene, sanitation, and access to safe water across the state.
Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi urged parents, caregivers, and community leaders to take the lead in promoting good hygiene practices in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods.
She emphasized that teaching children to wash their hands properly before eating, after using the toilet, and after playing is one of the most important lessons for a healthy life.
“When every child, parent, teacher, and leader becomes a handwashing hero, our communities will be cleaner, healthier, and more resilient against preventable diseases,” Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi said.
The Chairman of ALGON and Dutse Local Government Area, Dr. Sibu Abdullahi, commended the state government for establishing hospitals, providing roads, and other social amenities to the community. He also saluted the First Lady for selecting Dundubus community to celebrate the Global Handwashing Day 2025.
The Commissioner of Water Resources, represented by Permanent Secretary Eng. Labaran Adamu, highlighted the importance of handwashing in preventing killer diseases. He urged students to make handwashing a habit and commended the First Lady for her efforts in promoting hygiene and sanitation in Jigawa State.
The event aimed to raise awareness on the significance of handwashing with soap as an effective way to prevent diseases and infections. By promoting good hygiene practices, the Jigawa State Government hopes to build a healthier and more resilient community.
The commemoration of the Global Handwashing Day serves as a reminder of the importance of hand hygiene in promoting public health. “By working together, we can build a healthier and more prosperous community for all”.
