A Special Assistant to the Governor of Jigawa State has resigned from office amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Honourable Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim Sansani, Special Assistant on Small Town Water Supply to Governor Umar Namadi, has stepped down from his position to pursue elective office.
His resignation comes in line with a federal directive requiring political appointees seeking to contest in upcoming elections to resign before the end of the stipulated period.
In a letter dated March 25, 2026, addressed to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government, Sansani expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
He thanked the governor for entrusting him with responsibilities that contributed to development efforts in Jigawa State, particularly in improving water supply to smaller communities.
He also acknowledged the support of the ruling All Progressives Congress during his tenure.
While the former aide did not publicly state the specific office he intends to contest, political observers say his resignation signals early preparations for the 2027 polls, which are expected to reshape leadership at both state and national levels.
Before his appointment, Sansani held various positions within political organizations in the state.
He is also known as the National President of the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum, a group that mobilizes support for President Bola Tinubu across the nineteen northern states.
As of the time of filing this report, the Jigawa State Government has not issued an official statement on the resignation.
Political analysts note that such resignations are likely to increase in the coming months as aspirants position themselves ahead of party primaries and the 2027 general elections.
