The Jigawa State Government has taken a significant step towards strengthening its fiscal capacity and enhancing service delivery by inaugurating a Technical Committee on the Domestication of the New Tax Reform. 

During the inauguration ceremony held at conference hall government house Dute, on Monday 20th October,2025 the  the Governor Malam Umar Namadi said committe is expected to study the new federal tax reform framework and identify areas for domestication at the state level.

Namadi said the Technical Committee has been mandated to: Study the new federal tax reform framework, and identify areas for domestication at the state level, develop a practical implementation strategy and roadmap for the domestication of the new tax reform, propose necessary legislative and administrative adjustments to ensure seamless implementation of the new tax reform, and engage stakeholders, particularly the business community and civil society, to ensure public awareness and compliance.

The Technical Committee is comprised of representatives from various government agencies, private sector, and civil society organizations. The members include: Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Finance as (Chairman), Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning as (Co-Chairman), Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue, Accountant General, Ministry of Finance, Executive Chairman, Jigawa Internal Revenue Service (JIRS), Representatives from Private Sector (JICCIMA) and Civil Society/Tax Justice & Governance Platform (NASSI). 

The committee is expected to submit an inception report within two weeks, a draft implementation roadmap within six weeks, and a final report with recommendations within two months. 

The committee’s work is expected to strengthen Jigawa State’s fiscal capacity, enhance service delivery, and promote inclusive growth.

The committee will collaborate with partners such as the PACE Program under the leadership of Muiz Adeniran, who is committed to supporting the technical and stakeholder engagement processes. This partnership will further enrich the committee’s work and strengthen capacity for reform.

In her speech the co-chair of the committee, and commissioner of finance Prof. Hannatu Sabo Muhammad promised to work day and night with the members of the committee in discharging their duty. Muhammad then urged members of the committee to dedicate their time, ideas and profession in ensuring the implementation of the new tax reform. 

Earlier the executive chairman Jigawa state board of Internal Revenue Nasiru Sabo Idris said the inauguration of the Technical Committee on Domestication of the New Tax Reform is a significant step towards implementing the new tax reform in Jigawa State. 

Idris stated that the committee’s work will play a crucial role in ensuring that the state’s tax system is efficient, fair, and conducive to business growth.
