Reckless driving, excessive speeding, and overloading have claimed the lives of 22 persons, including women and children, in two separate fatal road traffic crashes recorded on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Dutse and Ringim Local Government Areas of Jigawa State.
The Jigawa State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Umar Masa’udu Matazu, made this known while briefing journalists on the tragic incidents.
According to the FRSC, a total of 27 persons were involved in the two crashes, out of which three sustained injuries, while others escaped unhurt.

The first and deadliest crash occurred at about 12:15 p.m. along the Dutse–Kwanar Huguma road at Danmasara town in Dutse Local Government Area.
The accident involved three vehicles two Volkswagen Golf cars and a Mercedes tipper truck. The vehicles were identified as a white Volkswagen Golf with registration number XA500KYW, a red Volkswagen Golf with registration number RAM 836 XA, and an orange Mercedes tipper truck with registration number BUU 289 XA.
FRSC officials attributed the crash to overspeeding, tyre burst, and loss of control, which resulted in the instant death of 17 occupants, comprising adults and children.
Barely an hour later, another fatal accident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. along the Kano–Garki highway at Nadawa village, about 40 kilometres from the FRSC Ringim Unit Command.
The crash involved a single ash-coloured Honda Civic, with registration number ABJ 730 EI, driven by Yunusa Hassan.
Out of the seven occupants involved, four persons-three females and one male child-lost their lives, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries. One female passenger escaped unhurt.
The FRSC rescue teams promptly evacuated the injured victims and the corpses to the Dutse and Ringim General Hospitals for treatment and identification.
Corps Commander Matazu expressed deep sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and cautioned motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before travelling.
