The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has approved the recruitment of 23 qualified Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) into the basic education system, in fulfillment of its commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunity.
The Chairman of SUBEB, Professor Haruna, granted the approval following engagements with stakeholders under the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) platform, where assurances were made to address the concerns of PWDs who participated in the last teachers’ recruitment exercise but were not captured among earlier beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries, whose names were earlier forwarded to SUBEB by the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Jigawa State Chapter, have since reported to the Board on Monday, December 29, 2025, in compliance with official directives.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of JONAPWD in Jigawa State, Adamu Sha’aibu, commended Professor Haruna and the management of SUBEB for what he described as a landmark decision that reflects fairness, responsiveness, and inclusive governance.
According to him, the approval has restored hope and confidence among members of the disability community, noting that the gesture aligns with global best practices on inclusion and the rights of persons with disabilities.
JONAPWD also expressed appreciation to members of the PLANE platform and all stakeholders who played roles in advocating for the inclusion of PWDs in the recruitment process.
The association, however, appealed for the consideration of other qualified PWDs who are yet to benefit from the exercise, reaffirming its commitment to constructive engagement with government institutions to achieve full inclusion.
The latest development is seen as a significant step toward promoting equity and strengthening inclusive education in Jigawa State.
