The Network of Jigawa Civil Society Partners has commended the Jigawa State Ministry of Basic Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for what it described as a transparent and rigorous process in the selection of qualified education administrators across the state.
In a statement issued in Dutse and signed by Nafisa Halliru Haruna, Gender Officer of the network, the civil society group praised the ministry for effective coordination, while acknowledging SUBEB as the implementing agency that ensured the appointment of competent and deserving education secretaries to manage education facilities across the 27 local government areas of the state.
According to the statement, the selection process was carried out with a strong emphasis on merit, professionalism and competence, a development the group said would significantly improve service delivery and accountability in the basic education sector.
The network also expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi Dan Modi, for his continuous support to the education sector, particularly the provision of official vehicles to the newly appointed education secretaries and motorcycles to school support officers.
The statement noted that the provision of mobility support would enable the administrators and monitoring officers to effectively supervise schools, especially in hard-to-reach communities, thereby strengthening oversight and improving teaching and learning outcomes.
“This intervention represents a defining moment for the education sector in Jigawa State. With the right leadership, adequate supervision and logistical support, schools will be better managed and learning outcomes will significantly improve,” the statement read.
The civil society group further stated that the ongoing reforms in the education sector are expected to inspire improved academic performance and produce well-rounded, globally competitive students capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with their peers anywhere in the country.
The Network of Jigawa Civil Society Partners reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government policies and programmes aimed at strengthening basic education, gender inclusion and overall human capital development in the state.
It also called on all stakeholders, including parents, teachers and community leaders, to support the newly appointed administrators in order to sustain the gains recorded in the sector.
The efforts of the SUBEB chairman Professor Haruna Musa in ensuring accountability in education services provision, enrollment, retention and transition of the girl child, quality teachers and community involvement in education service provision is commendable and appreciated.
