The Chairman of Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Alhaji Jamilu Muhammad Dan-Malam, has provided educational support to over 3,000 indigenous students through scholarships, financial assistance, free registrations and learning interventions aimed at improving access to education across the council.
The Special Assistant to the Chairman on Student Affairs, Comrade Abdurrasheed Adamu, disclosed this to newsmen in Jahun, noting that the intervention reflects the administration’s strong commitment to educational development and youth empowerment.
According to him, the support was implemented under various programmes, particularly the Mai Rice Students Care Initiative, which recorded major achievements in its second year.
The programme sponsored 347 students for Danmodi Students Care Nov/Dec registration and conducted pre-test examinations for over 1,270 students across the local government.
In addition, the council distributed school uniforms, textbooks and writing materials to 300 students under the Re-Back-to-School Programme in Kadawawa District, while several indigent students benefited from direct educational financial assistance.
The chairman’s education intervention also covered free registration sponsorship for 71 students in the NCE Sandwich Programme at Jahun Centre, 20 students studying Informatics in Kazaure, and eight students at Aminatu College of Health Sciences, Dutse.
Dozens of students were equally sponsored for entrance examinations into specialised secondary schools and technical colleges.
As part of efforts to expand access to higher education, about 550 students received free JAMB registration pins alongside special coaching sessions to prepare them for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The local government further supported students at tertiary and postgraduate levels through scholarships, tuition subsidies for part-time degree programmes, Master’s degree sponsorship for 13 beneficiaries with laptop support, and financial assistance for PhD research projects.
Additionally, students’ allowances were paid to about 1,000 beneficiaries, while NECO Nov/Dec registrations were funded for many candidates under the Danmodi Students Care Programme.
The administration also revitalised the Jahun Students’ Association, supported student union activities, facilitated admissions into Federal Science and Technical College, Hadejia, and sponsored successful candidates into the School of Nursing, Birnin Kudu.
Stakeholders and beneficiaries have praised the chairman’s sustained investment in education, describing the intervention as one of the largest student support programmes at the local government level in Jigawa State.
They expressed optimism that continued commitment to education would strengthen human capital development and secure a better future for youths in Jahun Local Government Area.
