Communities across Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State have thrown their weight behind Dr. Haruna Mairiga, endorsing him to contest for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mairiga, a former Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and until recently Special Assistant on Social Security to Governor Malam Umar Namadi, resigned his appointment to pursue his political ambition.

During a series of visits to his hometown and surrounding communities in Gwaram, Mairiga met with youths, elders, and women groups, where he received widespread support and calls to formally declare his candidacy.

Community leaders and residents who spoke during the visits described Mairiga as a grassroots politician with a strong track record in public service, urging him to contest the seat in order to attract more development to the constituency.

“We believe he has the capacity and experience to represent us effectively at the National Assembly,” a community elder said, adding that his previous roles in government have positioned him to understand the needs of the people.

The constituents also appealed to the Jigawa State Government and relevant stakeholders to provide a level playing field that would enable Mairiga to contest, expressing confidence that his emergence would translate into tangible development projects for the area.

Speaking during the engagements, Mairiga said his tour of the communities was aimed at strengthening ties with the people and reaffirming the state government’s commitment to improving their welfare.

He highlighted ongoing policies and programmes of the Namadi administration, noting that the government remains focused on sustaining development across all sectors in the state.

Mairiga further assured residents that continuity in leadership would bring more dividends of democracy, urging them to support Governor Namadi for a second term in office.

“If given another opportunity, the present administration will consolidate on its achievements and deliver more projects that will directly impact the lives of our people,” he said.

Observers say the growing endorsement from various segments of Gwaram constituency signals an early boost to Mairiga’s political ambition as preparations gradually build up toward the 2027 elections.
